Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s driveway and paver line spans three distinct series: the residential PGT Permeable line (2012-2019), the PGT Pro-Lock commercial-grade interlock system (2016-present), and the PGT Enviro-Grid permeable paver with integrated base panel (2019-present). The Permeable series used a 60mm thickness with a proprietary lug-and-groove edge; Pro-Lock moved to 80mm with a beveled interlock and a different edge-restraint clip spacing at 24 inches on center. The Enviro-Grid is the easiest to identify: each unit has a molded-in base grid that eliminates the separate Class II base layer, and the part number is stamped on the underside grid cell.

To order the correct replacement, we need the series, the color code (PGT used regional color batches, so “Desert Tan” from 2015 is a different dye lot than 2022), and whether your installation used sand-set or mortar-set bedding. We source OEM PGT units when the color match matters, and we use Belgard or Techo-Bloc equivalents when the structural spec is the priority and the original dye lot is discontinued. Signs Your PGT Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

• Pavers rocking underfoot along the garage or walkway edge. The PVC edge restraint has either cracked from UV exposure or pulled its spikes from the concrete haunch. In Escondido’s inland heat, we’ve seen edge restraints go brittle in seven years where coastal installs last fifteen.
• Low spot collecting water after rain, especially near the street or downspout outlet. The aggregate base has settled or washed out through a joint. Our clay soils in the Kit Carson Park area expand and contract seasonally, and a base that was compacted to 95% Proctor density can drop to 85% within five years if the bedding sand migrates.
• White efflorescence blooming across paver faces, then pitting or spalling follows. Moisture is wicking up through the bedding layer and carrying salts. This is common where PGT’s earlier permeable systems were installed without a geotextile separation layer between native soil and aggregate base.
• Joint sand completely gone, weeds established, pavers shifting independently. The polymeric sand has degraded or was never installed. On sloped driveways in Escondido’s hillside neighborhoods, we’ve traced this to irrigation runoff carrying sand downhill joint by joint.
• Cracked paver units in a straight line or circular pattern. This indicates a point load or base void beneath, not random failure. A cracked paver sitting on full base is rare; the crack is telling you where to dig.

Where DIY goes wrong is in the compaction and grading. Hand-tamping replacement base material leaves voids that telegraph through in one season. Regrading without checking the original slope toward drainage can redirect water toward your foundation.
