Cambria Home Additions & ADU: The Escondido Owner’s Guide

Rowan Construction Group Escondido installs Cambria surfaces in home additions and ADU projects across North County, with typical installed pricing from $45,000 to $130,000 for additions and $90,000 to $220,000 for standalone ADUs. Most Cambria-integrated projects we quote in Escondido are scoped and priced within 48 hours, with material lead times running 2-4 weeks depending on slab selection. Homeowners usually discover an issue when their addition’s countertop shows hairline cracks at unsupported overhangs, or when an ADU’s Cambria seam separates after seasonal expansion in Escondido’s inland heat cycles.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

We’ve installed Cambria in Escondido additions ranging from the Brittanicca and Torquay marbled lines to the solid-tone Whitby and Weybourne collections. The critical spec isn’t the color name, it’s the slab thickness, 2cm or 3cm, and whether your original installer used the proprietary Cambria 2-part epoxy seam kit or generic color-matched adhesive. The 3cm slabs handle Escondido’s 40-degree daily temperature swings in summer without the substrate flex that cracks 2cm overhangs wider than 10 inches. We carry both OEM Cambria seam kits and color-matched aftermarket epoxies on our trucks; the OEM runs $180-$340 per kit versus $90-$160 for quality aftermarket, but Cambria’s warranty requires OEM for any claim submission. Check the underside of your existing slab for the etched serial number, it tells us the batch date and whether your surface predates Cambria’s 2019 resin reformulation, which changed thermal expansion rates by roughly 12 percent.

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
  • Hairline cracks radiating from sink or cooktop cutouts. These start at stress concentrations where the substrate wasn’t properly reinforced with plywood or cement board. In Escondido’s dry climate, seasonal shrinkage of the underlying framing pulls the slab at unsupported edges.
  • Visible seam separation or adhesive yellowing. The 2-part epoxy degrades with UV exposure if your addition has south-facing windows without Low-E coating. We see this most often in ADU kitchenettes where builders skipped the upgrade.
  • Surface pitting or dull spots that won’t polish out. Cambria is 93 percent quartz, but the resin binder can etch from prolonged contact with acidic cleaners or citrus residue left sitting. The damage is in the finish layer, not the full slab depth.
  • Water staining beneath the surface that doesn’t wipe away. This indicates a compromised seal at the sink flange or backsplash joint, letting moisture wick into the substrate and create a shadow visible through the semi-translucent resin.
  • Slab movement or rocking when pressed. The original installer may have used dabs of adhesive rather than full-coverage bedding, a shortcut that fails within 3-5 years under Escondido’s thermal cycling. The slab is essentially floating on high spots.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Cambria surface replacement within an existing Escondido addition or ADU, our installed range runs $2,000-$6,500 for countertop-only work, with full addition projects from $45,000-$130,000 and ADU construction from $90,000-$220,000. What drives the spread: slab size and edge detail (eased edge versus ogee or waterfall), whether we need to remove and rehang existing cabinetry, and if the substrate requires replacement after moisture damage. Every quote is flat-priced with a written scope under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, no change proceeds without a signed change order. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers our installation; Cambria’s limited lifetime warranty covers material defects when we use OEM seam kits and register the installation. You’ll receive a documented photo record of substrate condition before and after, included standard, not an upgrade.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the slab thickness with a flashlight and ruler at the sink cutout, and photograph any serial numbers for us to verify batch compatibility. What goes wrong fast: attempting to lift a Cambria slab without vacuum cups and proper support, a 3cm slab runs 20 pounds per square foot and will snap under its own weight if flexed. The epoxy seam kits also require precise mix ratios and working times of 8-12 minutes in Escondido’s summer heat, we’ve rescued plenty of DIY attempts where the adhesive skinned before the seam was closed. For anything beyond surface cleaning and inspection, the cost of a failed repair usually exceeds professional installation.
